VMI clarifies: an investment account can be declared after the deadline

An investment account can still be declared after the deadline, even if you previously left it out of your return. Lithuania’s State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) has clarified this.

If you filed your income tax return (GPM311) on time, you can correct it and add the account. If you have not filed a return, you can submit your first one late.

The clarification applies to returns for the 2025 tax year and later years. For example, an account can be declared for 2025 after that return’s deadline of 1 June 2026. VMI’s corrections FAQ, questions 1–3.

VMI allows this to correct filing errors or submit a return late. You may, for example, have left out an account you were already using as an investment account.

However, this opportunity must not be used to avoid tax or to choose more favourable tax treatment for past investments after seeing their results. If you are unsure whether you are correcting a filing error or changing a past choice, ask VMI.

The GPMas calculator helps prepare investment account figures for your tax return from IBKR or Trading 212 Invest reports.
