On 2 June 2026, VMI announced that the first investment account filing period had ended on 1 June. Below, we explain which errors can be corrected after that deadline in a 2025 return filed on time.
If you filed your GPM311 return for 2025 on time and declared an investment account, you can still correct mistakes in that account's details after 1 June 2026. A correction does not give you a general right to add an omitted additional account for that tax period. VMI explains the distinction in its corrections FAQ, questions 1–3.
Account details and start date
You can correct the account number, institution details, the actual investment account regime start date and the cash balance treated as a contribution on that date. State when you actually began using the account under the regime. This may differ from the date the account was opened.
A mistaken account or an omitted additional one?
If you confused two accounts, you can correct the identification to show the account you actually used under the investment account regime during that tax period. However, if you omitted an account from a return filed on time, you cannot add it as an additional investment account for that tax period after the deadline.
Nor can you delete a declared account simply to choose ordinary taxation. You may record when use of the regime actually ceased; income received afterwards follows ordinary taxation.
Transaction errors discovered later
Incorrect contributions or withdrawals need correcting even when discovered in a later tax period. Suppose you withdrew €100 but entered €1,000 in the return. Correct the amount to €100, using your statement as evidence.
You should also correct the return if a credit institution or another payer of interest or dividends revises figures that affect your declared contributions. These cases and the limits on correcting account details are covered in VMI's questions 4–8.
What to compare before correcting the return
Open your submitted GPM311 and bank or broker statements for the same period. Check the account identifier and dates first, then the contributions and withdrawals in section H (GPM311 H dalis). Check each discrepancy individually, rather than only the annual total.
Note which document supports each change and retain it with a copy of the return being corrected. If you received a revised broker statement, compare it with the earlier version to identify which declared figures changed.
