Investment account reporting changes: sales proceeds, interest and corrections

VMI’s order VA-69, adopted on 16 October 2026 and effective from 17 October, adds sales proceeds and interest to Lithuania’s investment account reporting requirements for the 2026 tax year onward. The official order.

Sales proceeds and interest: first reported in 2027

New subparagraph 19.3 requires reporting the proceeds from selling financial instruments and/or interest received through the investment account. This requirement applies to the 2026 tax year and later years. The first affected GPM311 return is for 2026, filed in 2027. VA-69, clauses 1.3 and 2.2.

Sales proceeds are the amount for which the instruments were sold; profit is a different figure. Keep sales proceeds and interest separate from contributions and withdrawals when preparing your records.

The additional reporting requirement does not make each sale of an eligible investment immediately taxable. Income covered by the investment account regime is not taxed merely because it is received in the account, provided the regime’s conditions are met. VMI’s explanation of the regime.

Using funds for other purposes can also count as a withdrawal, even without a transfer to a personal bank account. Taxable investment account income arises when a withdrawal, including a payment treated as a withdrawal, exceeds the contribution balance at that time. The taxable amount is the excess. VMI’s withdrawal calculation guidance.

Corrections: amendment applies from the 2025 tax year

The same order removes the former prohibition on correcting investment account data after the filing deadline. This amendment applies to the 2025 tax year and later years. VA-69, clauses 1.2 and 2.1. See our guide to correcting a 2025 investment account declaration for the limits and VMI’s guidance on specific corrections.
